Let The Adventure Begin…
A naming ceremony can be a meaningful and personal way to celebrate the arrival of a child and formally welcome them into your family and wider community. However, it can encompass so much more.
While a legal registration acknowledges a name, a naming ceremony offers something more reflective and expressive - a moment to gather your loved ones and recognise the significance of a new life in a way that feels personal to you. Perhaps you wish for a more secular alternative to a christening? Perhaps you wish to celebrate the joy of adoption? Or perhaps you are part of a step-family that wishes to reinforce its commitment to one another?
As an independent celebrant based in Hampshire, I create and lead bespoke naming ceremonies across Hampshire and the UK.
These ceremonies provide an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the journey that has brought your family together, surrounded by the people who support and care about you. They can be shaped to reflect your beliefs, values, and preferences, whether modern, relaxed, traditional, or a blend of styles. There is no fixed format - the ceremony is created around YOU.

Personal and Meaningful: The Naming Ceremony
A name is far more than a label - it is how a person is recognised and known in the world.
A naming ceremony publicly affirms ‘this is who you are’. It is a deliberate and thoughtful way to give shape to love, belonging and connection by formally welcoming a child into your family and community.
At its heart, a naming ceremony is a celebration of identity. It is a moment that says: ‘this life matters, this person matters, and we are here together to acknowledge and honour that’. It is also a chance to reflect on your journey, to share your child’s story, how they came into your lives, what they mean to you and the hopes and values you hold for their future. It will become a lasting part of your family’s story, treasured for years to come.
A Celebration of Belonging and Identity: The Adoption Ceremony
Adoption is a unique and personal journey.
An adoption ceremony allows you to acknowledge that story - where it began, the path it has taken, and the love that has brought you together as a family. It is a moment to say, with intention and clarity: ‘this is our family’.
For many families, the ceremony becomes a meaningful milestone, marking not just a legal transition, but an emotional one. It is a time to recognise the bonds that have been formed. At its heart, an adoption ceremony is about connection, identity, and belonging.
You may choose to share your child’s story (in a way that feels appropriate and comfortable), the meaning behind their name, or the hopes and promises you hold for their future. It can be a gentle and affirming moment for a child by helping them feel seen, valued and secure within their family, while reinforcing the love and commitment that surrounds them.
Honouring a New Chapter: Two Families Become One
Forming a step-family is a meaningful moment and one that deserves to be recognised with care, sensitivity and intention.
This type of celebration offers a thoughtful way to acknowledge this transition, creating a moment to mark new relationships while respecting the journeys that have come before. Step-parenting and step-families often suffer negative connotations and this is a happy means to move away from a lazy narrative and underline the beginning of a new chapter. It allows you to acknowledge the joining of families in a way that feels inclusive, supportive and meaningful for both adults and children.
These ceremonies are carefully shaped to include everyone, ensuring that children feel seen, valued and secure within the new family dynamic. The tone is always guided by what feels comfortable and appropriate. It can be a gentle and affirming way to recognise new roles, relationships, and shared hopes for the future.
It is a way of saying: ‘this is who we are becoming, together’.
Guideparents & Family Involvement
For naming and adoption ceremonies, many families choose to include guideparents or supporting adults, similar to godparents, who make commitments to play a significant role in the child’s life.
This adds an additional layer of connection and support around the child, recognising the importance of community, guidance and shared responsibility as they grow.
Family members and friends may also be invited to take part through readings, messages, or symbolic contributions, making the ceremony inclusive and memorable for everyone present.
A Calm and Supportive Process
I will guide you through the process from start to finish, beginning with a relaxed conversation to understand your ideas, values and what you would like your ceremony to represent.
From there, I write a personalised ceremony that brings together your words, your story and your intentions in a meaningful and natural way. You will have the opportunity to review and refine the ceremony, ensuring it feels exactly as you want it.
On the Day
On the day of the ceremony, I create a calm and supportive presence, allowing you to relax and fully enjoy the occasion.
I will deliver the ceremony with wit, warmth and huge amounts of joy whilst ensuring everything feels relaxed and inclusive.
